Everyday (Mon-Fri), we deliver a Song of the Day podcast. We feature exclusive in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent musicians that KEXP thinks listeners should hear along with songs from more well-known artists. All this week, the Song of the Day podcast is spotlighted by Cheryl Waters on The Mid Day Show… Today’s Song of the Day podcast is ‘Silversun Pickups’ from the 2005 Pikul EP by Silversun Pickups, available on Dangerbird Records. Chances are you’ve heard this one before on KEXP, and it remains one of our favorites!

“The first time I heard Silversun Pickups I heard ‘Kissing Families’ and just about lost my mind. It was like the first time I heard ‘Good Morning Captain’ from Slint. One of those songs that builds and builds to the point where you put down what you’re doing just to listen and right then explodes out of your speakers. That song and that band are the kind that makes your job as a KEXP DJ easy. Not even a question that I’d champion that band. Live, always great. The lead singer may be the funniest man I’ve seen front a band. I couldn’t decide if I liked the music or commentary better! Can’t wait for the full length….” – John In The Morning

Here are two videos from Pikul

  • Comeback Kid (Directed by Chris Cafferty) – (WMV)
  • Kissing Families (Directed by Suzie Vcek) – (WMV)

Visit the KEXP Live Performances Archive to listen to an exclusive in-studio performance from Silversun Pickups on 3/16/06 from SXSW – (WMA, Real)
