Day 1 in the can! Well, sort of…

The Teenage Prayers live on KEXP – Gigantic Studios, NYC (5/15/06)

NYC is going GREAT…..hope you’re able to listen…..if not we’ll be podcasting almost all of the in-studios at some point. I can’t say enough about the people who work here at Gigantic Studios. We’re getting them up about 6 or 7 hours early and they’re doing a radio broadcast which isn’t what they usually do here but man….just great not to mention our own Kevin Suggs who made the trip to engineer. We also have the help of one Amy Bauer who helps at my record label and also does a ton of work for the Audioasis High Dive events. She’s out here on her own time so its really cool that she’s helping not to mention a bunch of NYC listeners who are helping, including Clara who was on the playlist all day. Lots of thanks to everyone involved. The Teenage Prayers, The Mugs, The Diggs, and Bill Janovitz were all EXCELLENT! Doron Gild, our photographer, got some great shots. Here’s a few… You can check out our slide show each day for all the photos.

I have to say, the Mugs were really impressive… Here’s the thing, commercial radio, corporate media, the people that put themselves in charge of deciding what music does or doesn’t get heard, have no clue. Case in point, The Mugs. They came into the studio today and blew everyone away. With a beat that reminded me of the English Beat or even early Police and serious serious emotional energy behind it, this band should be one of those that are on every radio station in the country… or at least more than just a handful like KEXP. If you’re looking for that band that when you play all your friends turn to you and
ask “who IS this” this is the one.

So each day this week, we’re podcasting one performance from that day’s NYC broadcast as part of our Live Performances podcast. We’ll deliver each podcast the same day as the performance and today it’s the Mugs! It’s totally free to sign up. Learn more about podcasting and subscribe now to check out the performance… You can also go back and listen at our Streaming Archive.

Yeah Kim. Thanks for letting me know I wasn’t alone… I think this station is my only salvation while continuing my struggle as a desk jockey.

Hey Jeff, Bill was kind enough to make the trip down from Boston to perform for us! It was a great set. You can go back and listen to it at the Streaming Archive as much as you want for two weeks… Enjoy! There are also a few pictures of Bill in yesterday’s slide show. Thanks!

What’d ya’ll think about The Teenage Prayers on Monday morning? I think I’ve listened to their performance on your archive at least ten times so far. Amazing.
