LIVE SHOWS – After their performance on KEXP on Tuesday afternoon, Ghostland Observatory is now on the top of my list to see live. They have a sorta seedy Lou Reed-like punk/rock vocal thing that they punch up with dance beats! Other stellar live shows coming up are Black Angels (at Chop Suey 6/19) – Deep, dark lyrics and this citar-guitar they use on some songs. Reminds me of Bauhaus, Jim Morrison…Very primal. I hear they perform in the dark, no lights. And Thievery Corporation 7/18 at the Moore (one of my fave all time bands) They have at least 5 different singers for each show, a soul/funk bass player and warm, fine dance beats.
SINGLES – I love albums. Whole albums. But sometimes singles are the way to go. I’ve been listening to the same 3 Prince songs in my car for 3 days. All from the new album (the rest of the album is so very cheesy, but hilarious in a Prince sorta way). The winning songs are: 3121, Black Sweat and Satisfied. So good.
Other bitchin singles I’d recommend: (did I just say “bitchin)
Goldfrapp – Ride a White Horse
Ghostland Observatory – Sad Sad City
The Strokes – Juicebox
The Roots – The Seed (it’s dirty but good oh so good)
Nas – Made Ya Look
The Gossip – Standing In The Way Of Control
Chemical Brothers – Siren Song
STRANGEST LISTENER QUESTION OF THE WEEK – “Are you into model railroading?†That, is one I’ve never heard before.
See you tonight… Michele
