Cool Replacements video

As a regular listener to my show you know I’m a big Replacements fan. I was doing some Replacements related surfing the other night and came across a bunch of great 1981 performance footage from the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis. Having worked at First Avenue/7th Street Entry at the time of these recordings (and having been present at these shows) I was aware of this footage but had never seen it. Incredible stuff–unbelievably focused performance–the band is so on and Tommy looks so damn young (14 or 15 at the time?). Let’s hope this performance/footage is release on DVD when the Replacements re-issues come out!!! For now, enjoy these clips!

Click on image for a cool video of the Replacements performing “Customer” and “Rattlesnake” on September 5th, 1981 show at 1st Avennue’s 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Check out other Replacements videos from that era here.

I saw these a few months ago. I remember hearing somewhere about that they had been found or leaked or something almost a year ago. Don’t remember where I heard it, but it’s great that it’s true. I think that Paul said in an interview that he had hours of footage of the band from their heyday, but that most of it would never see the light of day. Turns out, some of it did.

These have been up on the Twin Tone site for at least 10 years and are still there – dig it.

I remember seeing these guys play at the Longhorn Music Hall back in late ’79. It was on a Tuesday evening on what the Longhorn called “Tiger Night”. You would pay a small cover charge and see a new band (and free beer until the keg ran dry.) Half of the Replacements at that time were underage and is why I remember it because the club manager was a little nervous.
It was their first time playing a venue.
