There are two words I hear the staff at KEXP say all the time – THANK YOU. No matter if it is someone’s first time volunteering or they’ve been volunteering for 4 years – we all hear it all the time. And it’s really really nice. As a volunteer coordinator, it was weird not to be involved in a party thanking the volunteers. I want to thank them, too!!! I know exactly how much time each person puts into the station even if we’ve never met. I know who leaves work early, who uses their vacation days at work to be at the pledge drive every day, I know which ones moved to Seattle just to be closer to great music, I know which volunteers use KEXP as their respite away from their otherwise crazy lives – and I know which ones are the kind of music junky that you would only meet at KEXP.
So, here’s my thank you to the staff. THANK YOU for throwing us a kick ass party. THANK YOU for the food and prizes and the beer and the mix-tape swap. THANK YOU for serving me beer after beer after beer. And then another beer. Because that last one really made me happy. So happy that I spent the whole next day in bed in my pajamas not really wanting to move, speak, open my eyes or eat anything. And, my parents were visiting me and spent Saturday sightseeing without me. (I did finally get up at 5 pm to eat something and hang out.) And, lucky for me, we went wine tasting on Sunday and had lunch at Red Hook Brewery. And they asked me if I wanted a beer – well, that was awesome. Just what I needed after drinking half a keg of Red Hook on Friday night. By the way – I wasn’t quite ready for that beer.
So, like I said, THANK YOU!
