Let’s not candy coat it…

How’s your Monday? Great?! Isn’t it GREAT?! Isn’t MONDAY GREAT?! It’s is SWEET when someone writes you spitting out all caps about HOW GREAT MONDAY IS!!!!???????? Yeah! You feel me? Monday blows. Weekend was good though. My little sister got married down at Luna Park. It was nice down there. My brother and I gave her away. By “give her away” I mean walk her down the aisle and hand her over to the guy already having sex with her. I mean, that’s what it is right? Let’s be serious about this. Don’t candy coat it. This is as close as I’ll get to “giving someone away”. Really though, if you don’t give em away, they’re going to go anyway. Its just polite to say, “here you go, enjoy”. Sorry fathers, I have a son and you’ll have to do the same. Let’s just hope its to someone as nice and kind as Arlie. But maybe older then 2 years old…because that would just be weird….by the way, why do you only give the woman away? Is it like a caveman thing? Here is woman. Take her. Here is fire. Cook meal. Shouldn’t you give the guy away? Or give each other away? Or trade someone for a player to be named later? Or should it just a tradition and I should take my liberal ass back to liberalassland?

Either way, much love to my sister.

Big thank you to Heather Luke for her Pick 3 today. Got a LOT of great feedback from it. The theme was “making friends with music”. It was better then what I just called it though. Plus 2 of the 3 songs were dirty and 1 of the 3 songs was Stevie Wonder. People requested that Heather become a KEXP DJ so that’s impressive.

Oh, there might be a spot open for another Morning Show Intern. Or volunteer. Or assistant. Or getter of coffee. Whatever you want to call it.

I feel you, I have to do the same thing with my little sister this fall. The only catch is that she’s been married secretly for over a year…the ceremony is just for show for friends and family. She, the day after she called me to tell me that she got married and “don’t tell mom and dad” she called mom and dad and told them that she got engaged.

    Now she’s getting “married.”

Awesome. Honestly, I couldn’t make this shit up.

But, the guy is a good guy, despite his willing participation in the ruse, so I guess I’m happy for her.

But she is NOT getting another gift.

I like the term “liberalassland”. :)

For my wedding I did not have anyone give me away, nor did my husband have anyone give him away. We figured we were the ones getting married, so we ought to walk down the aisle together – to and from the front of the chapel. Otherwise it would have seemed silly. We had been living together for years – it had been more years than that since I had lived in my parents home – and anyway, what was I? Just an object to transfer over to someone else?

Weddings are a very very strange thing.
