Thursday, 10/5: Velouria Fall Fashion Show, with performances by Heather Duby and Graig Markel, The Triple Door
The imaginary girls are now divided along neighborhood allegiance lines in Seattle, with two-thirds calling Capitol Hill home, and one-third living in Ballard. Two of the cornerstones of Ballard are Sonic Boom Records and Velouria, located side-by-side right near the junction of Market and Old Ballard Avenue. Any self-respecting music fan in Seattle knows about Sonic Boom, a great local record store with three locations in greater Seattle (two in the imaginary girls’ hoods, and one more in Fremont). Sonic Boom not only supports tons of local bands and has incredible (free) in-store performances, but also has a staff of super cool, incredibly helpful folks working there. No record store snobbery here – the hippest of the hipsters to the most uninformed soccer mom can shop here without any eye-rolling from the musically-wiser.

Likewise, Velouria is a great place for the ladies who want to look good at the shows. The shop features clothing, jewelry, handbags, and various other girlie accoutrements, all made by independent designers (including the owner, Tes De Luna). And best of all, no boutique snobbery. The ladies at Velouria will help you forget you’re not a supermodel, with original fashions that make you feel all-fancy. The Fall fashion show promises to unveil the latest styles, worn by some of our favorite people in Seattle (Jenny George and Jackie, we’re looking at you). The night will also showcase two of Seattle’s finest solo artists, the dazzling Heather Duby and Graig Markel (both who have releases on Sonic Boom Recordings, the offshoot label of the record store). Check out this recording journal for the making of Graig’s new record…

Make sure you dress up, as the Triple Door is one elegant venue, reminiscent of 1930’s speakeasies, and the food – should you choose to dine before the show – is all provided by Wild Ginger, arguably the tastiest pan-Asian cuisine in Seattle.

Thursday, 10/5: Carrie Clark and The Lonesome Lovers, Andrea Wittgens (CD release), Bre Loughlin, Robb Benson and Dept of Energy, Nectar
If you’re feeling like a night of mega-talented local singer songwriters but you’re not feeling like a high-brow night at the Triple Door, Nectar in Fremont has a great lineup of local talent. The night is especially noteworthy as the CD release show for Andrea Wittgens, a new (at least to us) solo artist who sings and plays the piano in the vein of a dreamier Tori Amos. Join the former vocalist for Sugartown as she celebrates her debut release Alibi. Here’s a little video that Robb recorded with his daughter. He wrote the song and recorded the video in one day!

Also – don’t forget to tune in to Audioasis this Saturday night at 7p, where we’ll be hanging out with DJ Lisa Wood and spinning some of our favorite local Northwest tracks of the moment, including songs from Night Canopy, Siberian, and an exclusive from the Pharmacy.

See ya at a show,
