Gear up for a weekend of fun times! You all have marked your calendar for the big KEXP / Audioasis / 826 Benefit for this Saturday at the High Dive, right? It’s going to be big fun and for a great cause. If you’re looking for more ways to fill the next seven days with good times, we’ve got ‘em!

Sunday, 10/08 Thunderbirds Are Now!/You Say Party! We Say Die!/White Gold/Teeth & Hair, Chop Suey
Sunday marks the fifth stop on You Say Party! We Say Die!‘s extensive two month international tour. Despite their home base being over the border in Vancouver (making them a pseudo-local band), this is only the second Seattle show for this well-named, sassy Canadian quintet. If you’re a Pretty Girls Make Graves fan, we’re confident you’ll dig YSP!WED! {Phew, this bill has more exclamation points than an email from your 14 year old niece}

Adding even more punctuation, Thunderbirds are Now! are traveling all the way from igChar’s native land (Michigan) to show the West Coast the cleaner side of Detroit’s grimy sound (while still maintaining the rock).

And it’s all ages!! So bring your niece!!!!

Wednesday, 10/11 New West Motels/Central Services/Karen Pernick, High Dive
Oh L’Amour. Three Imaginary Girls have long been fans of mushy musical goodness, so it’s without reservation that we recommend this mid-week show from New West Motels, who self-profess to play “sugary sweet sounds for an incredibly retro world” An apt description, as a breeze across their MySpace page will confirm; the track “Take the Sleeper” is a dreamy nugget of a soft rock tune if we ever did hear one {and incidentally, did you catch us playing it during our Audioasis appearance last Saturday? We hope you did!}. This show is a particularly precious one, as it’s a pre-wedding bash to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of New West Motels frontman Rob Sharp and the soon-to-be Mrs. Sharp. It’s like an indie-rock stag and bachelorette party wrapped all in one, and you’re all invited. Rob even promises to wear a veil. We’re hoping for strippers.

SIDENOTE TO THE UNDER 21 SET... It’s that time of year again: Time to gear up for the EMP’s annual Sound Off! underage battle of the bands competition. All genres are welcome and the only requirements are that the band must be under 21 and from Seattle (or surrounding areas)… oh, and they need to apply!

Weekend action item for all young ‘ins: Since you can’t get into the ultra cool KEXP / 826 Benefit at the High Dive this Saturday night, spend the evening working on the hit song to accompany your application. The deadline is Nov 15th. No dilly dallying!
