2006 was a crazy year! A lot of big things at the end of the year with Jay-Z coming out of retirement. Also Nas making that power move to Def Jam with a crazy album on deck! Just wait! Looking back on the year I can only be sad about the passing of Jay Dee aka J Dilla. One of the most humble of cats and more talented than anyone could even imagine.
My good friend and former Rap Attack alumni DV-One had a run in with police brutality (allegedly). The truth will come out in the light. I saw the departure of DJ Scene from Streetsounds and KEXP. He’s off to bigger things including a weekly gig in Vegas.

I won the Westcoast DJ of the Year at The Mixshow Power Summit in the Dominican Republic and received some cool press. DJ Girl 6 is working on a record with Princess Superstar & Rhymefest among others and plans on shooting a video in NYC in Jan.

DJ Ethx is writing a lot and contributing to some major rags and of course buying up the classic underground and local hip hop vinyl. Affiliated folks like Lace Cadence from Clockwork and Redskin The General have new music, videos, and releases in the works. My new intern Tay Bot & his group Estrella dropped a tight mixtape & have been making moves and doing shows. My son Christian got to be a high five kid at the Sonic’s game!

It seems like 2006 was a year to make moves. While other stations and shows went digital this year we remained true to vinyl on Streetsounds, but it looks like Serato is on the horizon! I gotta say it was a good year.

Papoose got 1.5 million! Seattle producers made moves heavy too! I think Seattle will be solid on the hip hop map in a few years. Mark my words.
