Friday 1/12 - Saturday, 1/13: Mackris v. O’Reilly {Meany Hall}

A controversial lawsuit set to classical music? What the...?

Mackris v. O’Reilly is a retelling of the sexual harassment complaint lodged against Fox “News” personality Bill O’Reilly by staff producer, Andrea Mackris, in October 2004. The work includes all memorable moments from the original complaint and more (paranoid rants, clumsy sexual innuendo, and the famous falafel fantasy). More than just a midi-interpretation, this is a true masterpiece – a 31-part, concert-length work in the form of a baroque oratorio complete with 28-piece chamber orchestra, 26-voice chorus, and three soloists.

It’s playing at Meany Hall on Friday, January 12th and Saturday, January 13th. It’s about time there’s something that will put a smile on our face at the mention of Bill O’Reilly’s name.

Saturday, 1/13: soopajdelux {Christoff Gallery}

Local Seattle area artist known as “soopajdelux” has shown her marvelous pieces at the Crocodile, the Fremont Sunday market, and in an extensive collection at igDana’s house. The signature doughy faced forlorn girl that appears in most of soopaj’s work is an intriguing cross between a Precious Moment figurine and a Mark Ryden painting. It’s enchanting and warm without being bland. She has a show opening on Saturday at 5pm at Christoff gallery.

Results of the TIG Best Northwest Releases of 2006 Readers’ Poll are IN!

The poll winners were a reminder of how many staggeringly great records came out of the Northwest in 2006. We saw several great Northwest bands earn international recognition, including The Decemberists {#2}, Band of Horses {#4}, and The Gossip {#10}. While you confirmed their greatness with your votes, we were also thrilled to see how many bands on the Northwest’s smaller local labels — or even unsigned bands — were picked by you, our awesome readers (look no further than the triumph of lo-fi imaginary faves BOAT at #1!).

What can we say? Our readers have fabulous taste.

See the winners, and check out our personal faves for 2006.

Stay warm,
