Today in Music: Mando Diao, Lily Allen, the Jam, the Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys

A lot of video to share with everyone today… M.I.A., Olivia Tremor Control, The Jam, Lily Allen. To start it off, here’s a video of Mando Diao performing live at the Swedish Grammy’s last week. They have a new EP called Long Before Rock N Roll and they’re headed to the U.S. after they finish an extensive European tour. Catch them at SXSW and keep an eye out for a Seattle show.

  • Stereogum and Pitchfork are both reporting on this one today… Go to the Arcade Fire website, click on any of the neon bibles and select the “lyrics” tab. It’s pretty cool.
  • Arctic Monkeys release information on their upcoming full-length Favorite Worst Nightmare.
  • The Band of Horses show at the Showbox on Feb 26 has been cancelled, courtesy of Sound on Sound and Seattle Noise Blog.
  • Here’s the video for a new M.I.A. song called “Bird Flue.” Listen to the song at her MySpace page.
  • Check out the new video for “Alfie” by Lily Allen and read about the dress rehearsal for her Saturday Night Live appearance.
  • More from Olivia Tremor Control… Here’s some awesome footage of “A Peculiar Noise Called ‘Train Director.'”
  • There’s a new concert venue proposed for Coney Island.
  • This is a nice podcast from An Aquarium Drunkard.
  • Our friend Dave Allen over at Pampelmoose launched a new MP3 download store. The goal is to bring music from Portland artists directly to fans without using at third party.
  • Anybody ever heard of The Jam?

      The Jam: Taking My Love

When this video was made, I was seven years old and busy bouncing off the walls after having seen Star Wars for the first time. I had no clue about music like this. Other than a couple classical records and a John Denver album, there was very little music in my house. It was eight years later when my friend handed me a copy of SNAP! in a used record store and told me I should buy it. Much like the first day seeing Star Wars, that first day listening to The Jam blew my socks off. To this day I can still say they’re my favorite band. It’s great to see stuff like this posted here.
