Every Monday-Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. The podcast features exclusive in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent musicians that KEXP DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection is from Under Byen, who blew us away with their SXSW performance on Day 3 of our broadcast. The featured song is from their 2006 album Samme Stof Som Stof:

Under Byen – Palads (MP3)

  • Don’t think Björk can outdo the swan dress she wore at the 2001 Oscars? Check out her new getup in the cover of her new album. Pitchfork has pics and the lowdown.
  • Perhaps it’s a late April Fool’s Day joke, but Pitchfork also reveals the odd pairing of Ashlee Simpson and Robert Smith of The Cure (yes, you read that correctly).
  • According to Product Shop NYC, five unmastered songs from Art Brut’s forthcoming album, “It’s A Bit Complicated,” have leaked.
  • We’re loving these new Oxfordians called Foals. Check out the video to their new single “Hummer” at NME.
  • Dodge at My Old Kentucky Blog interviews Walter Meego at SXSW.

  • Ok, we’ve never been huge fans of Alanis Morissette, but this hilarious video earns much respect:
  • The newest addition to Sub Pop’s roster is Handsome Furs, a side project of Wolf Parade‘s Dan Boeckner and his fiancée, Alexei Perry.
  • Speaking of Wolf Parade, co-founder Spencer Krug shares a side-project called Sunset Rubdown with a guy named Jordan Robson-Cramer, who’s also in a band called Miracle Fortress — okay, it’s a stretch — but guess what? They rock. In a mellow, breezy, Beach Boys kind of way. Check out their song “This Thing About You” courtesy of Chris from Gorilla Vs Bear.
  • And in more Sub Pop related news, here’s great video of The Shins performing “Australia” during our CMJ broadcast last year from Gigantic Studios:
  • Rock Insider loooooves Sea Wolf. Check out the excellent LA band, who are opening for Silversun Pickups at Neumo’s in Seattle.

    5. […] First off, we apologize for posting the Alanis Morissette video earlier this month, not because it wasn’t funny — it actually was — but we feel like we’ve contributed to its overexposure. The satiric video, which made its way through practically every music and entertainment blog, has itself become the victim of satire. We here at KEXP are not going to dignify the collaboration of Peaches, Yo Majesty and Inara George, of The Bird and The Bee, entitled “My Dumps” by showing it to you — but if you are so inclined, you can dirty your mind over at Gorilla Vs.
