“Rousing” was the word used by our own DJ El Toro, who hosted today’s performance by The Frames, as part of the KEXP VIP Club Concert Series, when asked to describe the band. And certainly the Irish group’s performance at The Triple Door today was nothing if not that. It’s inexplicable how the 15-year recording veterans have not become huge in the U.S., as other acts like Coldplay garner heaps of praise, and bucks, while using a similarly emotional aesthetic. The Frames, however, seem less to care that they haven’t reached U2′s height of fame than they do to communicate their passions to the audience, who for today’s performance were amazed. I’ve seen the the band in concert a handful of times, and each and every time I hear people in the audience exclaim, whether or not they had heard of the band before, that they couldn’t believe how intense and, yes, rousing the live show could be. If you’re able to see the band on Wednesday, April 11, at The Showbox in Seattle, or anywhere else they may be on tour, I recommend spending whatever it costs to experience what so many non-Americans already know: that The Frames are the premiere live act. Check ‘em out!
