Formed in Albuquerque, discovered by Sub Pop in San Francisco, and now living in the Pacific Northwest, The Shins have certainly moved up in the world. Beginning with the first album, Oh! Inverted World, whose “New Slang” still elicits shrieks of ecstasy from ever growing crowds, The Shins have built upon an instantly recognizable sound and added more complexity and maturity with each new album, which really just means that they’re experimenting more with the pop song structure. But don’t worry — there are hooks aplenty on Wincing the Night Away, as you’ll hear on our Song of the Day podcast, as well as on this new video:
