Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters, is “Jacket†by David Vandervelde from his debut, The Moon Station House Band, available on Secretly Canadian.
David Vandervelde – Jacket (MP3)
This young man has been making good connections from the beginning by recording his debut album in Jay Bennett’s Chicago studio, arranging strings with Beck’s father, David Campbell, and working with famed engineer Steve Churchyard (Wings, the Band). Internet buzz then connected him to the world, more precisely, the 2007 installment of SXSW. Following that performance, Vandervelde set out on tour with labelmate Richard Swift before opening four East Coast shows for Spoon. For those who failed to connect with Vandervelde on his spring tour, another opportunity presents itself at Lollapalooza in August. In the meantime, look for the single “Nothin’ No,” which hits stores on June 19th.
