Sunday dawned to beautiful, beautiful weather in the Emerald City. I noticed that my roses needed to be pruned as I rushed out the door to get into the studio for Preachin’ the Blues. The roses willl need to wait a week. Johnny Horn and Cheryl Waters are in the studio, working hard to meet goals for the Summer Pledge Drive before the whole city was at Alki Beach trying to get rid of its translucent Seattle winter skin. We’re a pasty bunch, ain’t no denying it!
All day, we were thrilled to see that folks at the beach, or coming home from hikes, or out on the water, or barbecuing in their back yards, called in to share the love and show their support for Johnny, Stevie Zoom and Larry Rose. We had a good day, finishing out at about $5,000 ahead of our goals for the day and at nearly 20% of our overall goal!
And those of us who stayed inside to help make sure independent radio continues to thrive could gracefully accept that we were losing out on one of the few sun-filled days that Seattle is allotted. That’s because we felt great that we were helping to make a difference for the future of KEXP and independent musicians and artists. Plus, we could sneak outside for a few minutes at a time, blink in the sunlight like tiny little moles, soak up some vitamin D, and return to the pledge room to hang out with awesome volunteers, eat great chocolate covered snacks, and laugh our way to the next pledge drive goal.
If you figured that KEXP volunteers would be a colorful bunch, you’d be absolutely correct. Today’s group reminds me of my roses: gorgeous, fragrant (all good fragrances) and vibrant. As I was munching on a little chocolate nib with a fun group from Three Imaginary Girls, I noticed that there was so much to look at, that I should share!
Body Adornment! And that speaks for itself!
