Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Afternoon Show host Kevin Cole, is “Love Your Abuser,” by Lymbyc Systym from the 2007 album Love Your Abuser on Mush Records.
Lymbyc Systym – Love Your Abuser (MP3) Though you can hear all of Lymbyc Systym’s influences and contemporaries in their songs, they never fail to remind you that they are indeed unique. While touring with more well-known bands of the so-called post-rock genre, like
Album Leaf and
Mice Parade, brothers Jared (keys) and Michael (drums) Bell, aka Lymbyc Systym, grew and thrived under all of the right conditions, crafting an interesting and dynamic live show and are now considered peers to their former inspirations. Much like
Talkdemonic or
Dosh, Lymbyc Systym create their sound slowly by layering instrument upon instrument, not by pushing buttons as modern technology too easily allows. Perhaps it’s the hot Arizona climate, but unlike some other bands in the same genre, Lymbyc Systym never seem icy or distant, preferring instead a warmer and livelier sound. Refer to the band’s
website for a ton of great reviews from around the web and blogosphere. After a show tomorrow night in Austin at
Emo’s, the brothers head out to Japan for a five stops before returning back to the Arizona heat.Be sure to check out Lymbyc Systym’s in-studio performance at KEXP, recorded in April, which was recently one of our
Live Performance podcasts.
Lymbyc Systym – Live @ KEXP 4/25/07 (MP3) And while the brothers Bell were in our studio, a Seattle Times reporter and a photographer came to write about
KEXP and technology and included Lymbyc Systym as part of their feature. Take a look at this sweet
slideshow of the performance.
