Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is Tenement Teeth
by Pela from the 2007 album Anytown Graffiti on Great Society Records.
Formed in 2003, Pela has been on our minds and in our ears nonstop since dropping their debut LP. As mentioned in a previous post for Lost to the Lonesome,
Pela will be featured at this year’s 5th Annual KEXP Summer BBQ along with Cloud Cult, the Blakes, and other special guests yet to be announced. Coming off of a very successful tour with BrakesBrakesBrakes and Electric Soft Parade (not a bad billing, huh?), Pela are set to headline the Bowery Ballroom on 8/25, a sign of Pela’s quick ascension in the indie ranks. Also, Pela are being honored in a documentary entitled Rockin’ Brooklyn, an account of the recent successes of Brooklyn-based bands.
Check out the wealth of information on the band’s tour blog and MySpace page. Here is the live debut of Waiting On The Stairs
from SXSW 2006:
