Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Afternoon Show host Kevin Cole, is Heart It Races (DJ Rupture Remix) by Architecture in Helsinki from the 2007 EP Heart It Races on Polyvinyl Records.

Architecture in Helsinki – Heart It Races [DJ Rupture Remix] (MP3) Originally all hailing from Melbourne, this now sextet (Isobel Knowles and Tara Shackell left in ’06) is dispersed throughout the world, mirroring the often ramshackle nature of their song structures. Heart It Races, here in one of its many remix versions, is the first single off of the forthcoming album Places Like This and a signal of the band heading in a more accessible and poppy direction. The instruments used are as varied as before, but this time they around carry a worldly influence consistent with their living in different locales. The album title, left at the mercy of a YouTube competition, was eventually chosen by the band (sorry, YouTubers). AiH are about to embark on a balls-to-the-wall tour of Australia and Europe in support of the upcoming album release. Don’t worry statesiders, they will come. Here’s the tracklist for Places Like This: 1. Red Turned White
2. Heart It Races
3. Hold Music
4. Feather in a Baseball Cap
5. Underwater
6. Like It or Not
7. Debbie
8. Lazy (Lazy)
9. Nothing’s Wrong
10. Same Old Innocence
As always, support the bands you love; check out their website and MySpace page for all the latest and greatest. Meanwhile, check out this more than entertaining video for Heart It Races:
