Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is Salvador by Jamie T from the forthcoming Panic Prevention on Virgin.
Jamie T – Salvador (MP3)Jamie Treays, a South London native going by the name Jamie T, has gotten our attention, already winning the 2007 NME best solo artist award at the ripe age of 21. Other contenders included Jarvis Cocker, Lily Allen, and Thom Yorke (pretty decent company). If that wasn’t enough, his Arctic Monkeys meets Billy Bragg version of Punk/Rap, Reggae, and Folk has been shortlisted for this years Mercury Prize. His forthcoming album, Panic Prevention, gets its name from panic attacks Jamie T once suffered. Now the only thing he has to panic about is how popular he’s going to get (if that’s a bad thing). Most US cities on the music superhighway will get their chance to see this budding star in September including a stop at the Crocodile Cafe 9/22 as part of our own John in the Morning at Night event.
For the time being, head over to his website and MySpace page, and check out this live video for “Salvador” to see what all the fuss is about:
