In 2000, KCMU began streaming live on the internet. At that time, many other stations had already been streaming online, but KCMU became the first radio station on the internet to stream in high-quality uncompressed audio.
In 2001, KEXP DJ Larry Rose developed the real-time playlist giving listeners the opportunity to see the album, artist, song and label for every song played on KEXP. Since then we’ve added the “Click-to-Buy” feature which makes it easy for you to purchase the music you discover on KEXP directly from a link on the playlist.
In 2006, we added the KEXP Blog and free podcasts to the award winning KEXP website as part of KEXP’s continuing efforts to develop new ways to help you discover great music.
Check back here for more posts on the station’s history and visit KEXP.org to find out how you can Own A Piece of KEXP as part of KEXP’s online auction.
