Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Afternoon Show host Kevin Cole, is Miss Rebellion Des Hormones
by Stereo Total from the 2007 release Paris-Berlin on Kill Rock Stars.
After twelve years and barely fewer albums, Stereo Total continue to deliver fresh batches of lo-fi electro-pop full of humor and sexuality. The Berlin-based duo sing songs primarily in German, French, and English (what band doesn’t?), but have included several other far-reaching languages in their discography in order to land on as many dance floors as possible. Frustrated by the similar sounds produced in their genre, Françoise Cactus and Brezel Göring sought to create an album that mimicked a live show by using all real instruments and recording live. You be the judge as to how well they succeeded; listen to the full album streaming here. Or better yet, check them out on their recently launched U.S. tour, stopping through Seattle’s Chop Suey 9/3 and Portland’s Wonder Ballroom 9/4. Don’t forget about their MySpace page, the video interview here, or this new video for Ich bin der Stricherjunge
