Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is
Business Time by Flight of the Conchords from the 2007 EP The Distant Future on Sub Pop.
After their first release in 2002, a live album entitled Folk the World Tour, this duo out of New Zealand quickly began racking up comedic awards worldwide. Musically, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement incorporate everything from folk, pop, rap, reggae, and everything in between into their comedic ditties. Recently they’ve appeared on David Letterman, at Bonnaroo, and their HBO series of the same name has wrapped up its premiere season. Already contracted for next season, their TV series involves the guys, get this, trying to achieve success as a band in NYC. This EP is the their first release on Sub Pop, and according to the record label, a full-length disc should follow in early 2008. For those of you unfamiliar with the show, you’ll have plenty to keep you occupied in the meantime. Check out the band’s MySpace page for several performance clips. Before you go, here’s a sexy clip of
