Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters, is 1000 Words
by Arthur & Yu from the 2007 album In Camera on Hardly Art.
Amidst the current rise of psychedelic folk music and a return to lo-fi production, Seattle’s Arthur & Yu drop this little nugget of 60′s nostalgia. With fuzzy acoustics and harmonies that are hard to match, it’s no wonder this duo was given first-band rights on Sub Pop imprint Hardly Art. Grant Olsen and Sonya Westcott (former Rogue Wave bass player) were featured previously on the KEXP Blog for their song The Ghost of Old Bull Lee.
They are currently touring in Japan before returning to the states where they’ll share bills with Iron & Wine and Great Lake Swimmers, though not at the same time. Get your tickets now for that show with GLS, happening 10/17 at the Tractor. And check out the A&Y MySpace page for all the details as well as a free download of yet another song, Come to View.
Here’s another performance of the band at Easy Street Records:

I am REALLY excited to have discovered these guys, but it appears that the song you have posted here is actually Lion’s Mouth, not 1000 Words. Just, you know, FYI. Why not post more any way? ;)
