Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Afternoon Show host Kevin Cole, is Every Line Of A Moment
by Roddy Woomble from the 2007 album My Secret Is My Silence on 7-10 Music.
After more than a decade as the Idlewild frontman, Roddy Woomble decided to make a solo record in between his main project’s offerings. While the album has been out for over a year in the UK, it only hit these shores, to positive reviews, in early July. Though Idlewild comparisons are unavoidable, Woomble’s solo effort is more bare-boned and lyrical, exemplary of Idlewild’s new folkier direction yet more telling of Woomble’s personal style. Bandmate Rod Jones gets songwriting credit for a few tracks while Karine Polwart and Kate Rusby (with whom Woomble dueted on her previous LP) provide ethereal harmonies on a few others, all showing Woomble’s strength in numbers, even when he opts to go it alone. Next month, Idlewild tours the UK, Scotland, and Ireland along with The Twilight Sad. Idlewild is also releasing a best-of album 10/1 on Parlophone, which will include a DVD with concert footage, music videos, and more. Check out Woomble’s MySpace page as well as that of Idlewild for complete details, and don’t miss this performance of I’ll Meet Thee at the Lea-Rig,
performed at a Rabbie Burns Night
event in March:
