The big music news over the weekend, if you can take a break from reading about Britney Spears, Madonna, and Amy Winehouse, is the Austin City Limits Festival. If you weren’t able to go, or pulled a White Stripes and backed out of your plans to go, you can read about the performances and events at your favorite music blogs, as they were most likely there, or check out The Austin Chronicle’s music blog and The Tripwire. Here on the KEXP Blog, we’ve assembled a video roundup so that you’ll feel like you were there.
Before the festival officially began, hometown favorites Spoon appeared at a preshow on Thursday night at La Zona Rosa. Here they are performing “The Underdog”:
One of the largest draws of the festival, Björk, presented a dazzling set as she’s done at festivals all summer. Here she dances elvishly to “Earth Intruders”:
British rockers Muse were not outdone by the Icelandic princess’ theatrics and treated the crowd to a spellbinding and possibly seizure inducing light show, as here with “Stockholm Syndrome”:
Get up close and personal with M.I.A. here boogieing to “Bucky Done Gone”...
and here crowd surfing!
Irish crooner Damien Rice thrilled the crowds with his emotionally explosive “Volcano”:
...while Texas electro-rock wizards, and KEXP favorites, Ghostland Observatory allured them with their forbidden groove:
The “backstage” of the festival’s mainstage was lined with the lucky many, from the looks of it. Here’s a somewhat exclusive view of Wilco performing “Handshake Drugs” from the crowded balcony above the band:
Here, Stephen Marley makes his father proud with his faithful rendition of “No Woman, No Cry” to seemingly smoke-free crowd:
There are plenty more videos to be found on the ‘Tube, and surely more will be uploaded this week, so take a gander, and next year buy your tickets early!
