Local Club Calendar Recommendations: 9/21-9/27

This is a tumultuous week for local music. All in the next seven days there are a few CD releases, balanced out by other bands saying goodbye with final shows. The music landmark Old Fire House in Redmond is also celebrating their 15th anniversary! Did I mention Fremont Oktoberfest is crammed into the week as well? If you’re looking for something to do, there is plenty of noteworthy stuff happening around Seattle:

Friday 9/21: The Assailant (Grindcore/Hardcore) @ Healthy Times Fun Club 8 PM

This is the Seattle band’s very last show, held at the local DIY venue. Their last extensive tour was last year, in support of their release Clorea.

Saturday 9/22: OFH’s 15th Birthday ft. These Arms Are Snakes @ Old Fire House Teen Center 8pm

One of the area’s few all-ages, all the time venues, and it’s been around for 15 years now! Come join in the festivities, which includes music from These Arms Are Snakes, who will probably rip your face off. This is also reportedly the last show of openers Mikayla’s Fiend! Akimbo and Kane Hodder are rounding out the bill.

Saturday & Sunday 9/22-9/23: Fremont Oktoberfest along the Fremont Ship Canal

If you were looking for a festival featuring local artists, here it is! The Saturday Knights, Thee Emergency, Speaker Speaker, and plenty, plenty more are lined-up to rock out the neighborhood in honor of the Autumnal celebration. Basically a local music showcase, enough said. Oh, did I mention there’s a smorgasbord and renowned beer garden too?

Tuesday 9/25: Cave Singers CD release @ Easy Street Records 6pm

Come out for the release of possibly one of the best CDs this year. Of course it’s always mentioned the members of the Cave Singers are from other highly acclaimed bands, but forget that. They are again making a name for themselves with this new endeavor.

Wednesday 9/26: Wehrwolve @ El Corazon 8pm

Ok, this is bit self-gratuitous, but yours truly will be a back-up player for this up-start band that mixes acoustic guitar over electronic foundations and layered vocals.

Thursday 9/27: Kinski CD release show @ Crocodile 9pm

CD release show for one of Seattle’s quintessential “experimental”/shoegaze bands. This is a don’t-miss, as their music encompasses wide dynamics, from powerful moments to sub-dued moments of intricacy.
