Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is
Your English Is Good by Tokyo Police Club from the 7″ currently available on Mean Beard Recordings.
It’s been an interesting ride for this young Canadian quartet, thriving for well over a year now on the strength of sixteen minutes of music also known as their debut EP A Lesson in Crime. Touring with bands like Art Brut and Cold War Kids, TPC has led their ever-expanding audience through dazzlingly short punk clap-a-thons, all en route to a deal with Saddle Creek, signed in July. Hardcore listeners will gladly snag the Smith EP in November, the group’s last obligation with Paper Bag Records and one that includes three videos. If, for some silly reason, you’re not interested in these b-sides and bonus tracks, the first full-length should drop in February 2008. The band is currently in the studio recording said full-length with producer Peter Katis, who is responsible for Interpol‘s first two albums and the National‘s Boxer. Interviews consistently catch the band predicting more of the same on the new record (that’s all we’ve been asking for). If waiting ’til November is not an option for you, check out sessions at My Old Kentucky Blog and Daytrotter, and definitely place yourself at their show at Neumo’s 10/18. Check their MySpace page for possible TPC sightings near you, and enjoy this video of
