Song of the Day: Pela – Lonesome Hearts (Cassettes Won’t Listen remix)

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is Lonesome Hearts (Cassettes Won’t Listen remix) by Pela, a remix available from Great Society.

While not too much has happened on the Pela front since their last feature, we just can’t help ourselves. And this time around we’ve got a little curveball for you; yes, even Pela is subject to being remixed. Cassettes Won’t Listen, aka producer/multi-instrumentalist Jason Drake has done memorable remixes of Dr. Octagon, Mr. Lif, Midlake, Asobi Seksu, and many others. (You can check out a bunch of these CWL remixes for free over at Dope Lotus Records.) Although this remix caters to the party crowd, much of Pela’s emotional intensity shines through, making this an exceptional addition to the music library of fans and non-fans alike. One new thing worth mentioning is that Pela will be one of many stellar performers broadcast live from CMJ on October 16th.
