A lot of people think that doing remotes means sleeping in. Not true. In a very weird Star Trek kind of space time continuum kind of deal we all end up getting out of bed earlier. We got up at 5:45 this morning which is 3:45 Seattle time which in any timezone is way too early. The other issue would be my coworkers here, they never get up at any of the above times. This of course gives me an advantage so I usually make sure to steal money from them early. Later when they wake up I buy them something with their own money and seem like the hero. It’s win win really.
I made sure to have some sweet hotel coffee, that kind you find in the bathroom. I actually took it in the shower with me. You know something is either very wrong or very right when you find yourself at 5:45 in the morning standing naked in the shower with a cup of hotel coffee [insert picture here].
We arrived and got everything going in the booth. What a lot of people don’t know is we are pretty much locked into either the air booth we set up or the performance area. Usually this is okay, but not when it’s the nicest day of the year outside! Man, it’s beautiful. No natural light and too much coffee is a recipe for some Lord of the Flies type freak out. An hour ago I was running around the booth screaming, “Kill the intern, spill its blood, kill the intern, spill its blood.†I was talked down by the guitarist for Airiel. By “talked down†I mean he beat me with his guitar and drug me back into the booth.
All the photos were taken inside of our little booth. It’s a place of wires and plugs and music and food and noises and smells that you can find in most zoos. We are liked caged animals but without sharp teeth and fur.
The bands so far have ruled. As I wait, Beirut are warming up and getting ready to play live with us for I think the 3rd time. Once in Seattle, once in Austin and now in Chicago. Very excited to see them in every city one day. They might be a little freaked out that we’re stalking them.
Speaking of bands, in the photo Ha Ha Tonka took with Cheryl something was revealed…Cheryl has the longest arms in all the land. She can hold 2 men on both sides of her.
We’re all hitting the wall and I’d say as a group we will not be representing tonight but instead saving ourselves for the listener party at the Darkroom Thursday and a night out Friday. More as I experience it!
