Song of the Day: Yeasayer – Sunrise

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. This week we are featuring songs by bands who will appear on our CMJ broadcast next week. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is Sunrise by Yeasayer from the forthcoming album All Hour Cymbals, available 10/23 on We Are Free.

Yeasayer – Sunrise (MP3)

So when we first featured Yeasayer in early September, linked here, they had already picked up steam just on the strength of their single 2080. They have since been dazzling audiences with their energetic performances and larger-than-life four-part harmonies. With primal guitars and a killer blend of psychedelic rock/gospel, Yeasayer will take you to church. Though they only have a number of East Coast dates scheduled right now, you can get a taste of what these guys are all about when they perform live on KEXP on Thursday, 10/18 at 2:00pm as part of our broadcast from CMJ. Beyond that, I recommend you have a few bucks laying around for the record release the following Tuesday. Head over to their MySpace page where you can still snag the non-album track Final Path. While the audio is sub-par, this video of Yeasayer performing Sunrise is well worth two minutes of your time:
