Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. This week we are featuring songs by bands who will appear on our CMJ broadcast next week. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is
Mathletics by Foals from the single of the same name on Transgressive Records.
Ever since bringing their dance-punk and highly accessible math-rock to the states for SXSW, the American indie labels have been clamoring for the Foals. While no stateside label has been confirmed, Foals will be playing live on KEXP on 10/19 and then at the Sub Pop/Hardly Art showcase at CMJ on 10/20. This Oxford quintet has attracted a mighty following by touring the British countryside, including many raucous house parties. At one such house party a little more than a week ago, guitarist Jimmy Smith lost half of a tooth in the fray; that’s rock-and-roll. Their first full-length is expected later this year and is produced by Dave Sitek of TV On the Radio. As usual, Foals are currently tearing across Great Britain, and will gain big exposure in November and December opening for another dance-punk outfit, Bloc Party.
Foals will complete our CMJ broadcast when they perform live on KEXP on Friday, October 19, at 4 pm (PST).
