Live at CMJ: The Hold Steady live performance podcast

Craig Finn is the real deal, folks. All those stories you have heard him tell out about bar fights and stumbling across the streets of New York City really did happen and if you are lucky enough to hear the band, he will share all those special moments with you. Accompanied by band mates Bobby Drake (drums) Tad Kubler (lead guitarist), Franz Nicolay (keyboards, accordion, harmonica), Galen Polivka (bass guitar) have produced several critically acclaimed albums, the first of which, Almost Killed Me coined them as being next in line to the New York indie dynasty back in 2004. Their second album, Separation Sunday was released on May 3rd, 2005, and slapped listeners with the classic rock and roll battle between music and religion. Craig stretched himself to new levels of rugged debauchery and downright delicious music madness in pure rocker form. That’s right, The Hold Steady is here to stay.

You can now download yesterday’s performance from The Hold Stead, broadcast from the Gibson showroom in NYC.

Can’t wait to see these guys at the Hub Ballroom on 4 Nov. Saw them at the Crocodile Cafe about a year ago and was very impressed. Get tickets if you can, you won’t be disappointed.

    Go Go Minnesota!

    Greetings from the UK!
I’ve seen this band live 3 times this year and it’s a great experience to watch a band that so clearly love what they’re doing. Can’t wait for them to cross the pond again!

I have to agree with Mark. These guys actually SMILE on stage, and they set out to show everyone a good time. I have seen them live quite a few times this year and they are, without doubt, the best live band on the scene at the moment – and the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet!

This is another great moment to have heard. To add to the list of great moments…

These guys easily won my “Best of Lollapalooza” award this year. Best live show I’ve ever seen, hands down. Can’t wait to see ‘em again at the Metro on Halloween.

What kind of lens did you use for those photos? Franz’s head looks 2x too big for his body. But then again, maybe it is, what do i know?

THS rocks. Can’t wait ’til 7/15.
