Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is Nine Ships by The Voom Blooms from their self-released 2007 EP Nine Ships.

The Voom Blooms – Nine Ships (MP3)

The Voom Blooms, a quartet from Loughborough, have generated tons of buzz on the strength of a couple of EP’s and singles. Shortly after their forming in 2005, they were immediately latched onto by various bigwigs like NME, Rolling Stone, Radio 1 and BBC, causing their first couple singles to be sold out in a matter of days. Little more than a month ago the drought was ended and The Voom Blooms released Nine Ships, but only in Japan. Fret not; the band is currently working hard in the studio polishing off US and UK versions of the album to be released in the Spring of ’08. And while the many Bloc Party and Libertines nods may tip you in the right direction, sonically and vocally The VBs intimate a softer side, letting it be known that they are not just another post-punk band. You be the judge. Check out their MySpace page for updates on the new album, and the high intensity of this performance of Lovers:
