Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Afternoon Show host Cheryl Waters, is Paper Birds
by Siberian from the 2007 album With Me on Sonic Boom Recordings.
Siberian has received positive attention from local DJs and critics for some time now. With Me, the band’s full-length debut, ensures more positive attention to come. Unlike most debuts, With Me gives listeners more than a few gems to last until the band really figures things out; it is a gem of an album that makes you wonder why many bands take 3-4 records to produce this level of quality. Frontman and co-founder Finn Parnell heads up the songwriting department, in addition to providing equally fiery and emotional falsetto vocals. With the guidance of producer Martin Feveyear (Brandi Carlile, Presidents of the USA), Siberian confidently marches through lush guitar-driven atmospherics and unique pop compositions that give indie a new dimension. Stream their recently released album in its entirety here, or better yet, check out the band’s CD release party 11/2 at the Crocodile.
