Out This Week: New Releases 11/6

Will you be Grizzly Bear’s friend too?

As the year draws to a close, it becomes more and more evident that the big guns have already fired. While the number of highly anticipated new albums has dropped precipitously — just compare to a month or two ago — there’s still plenty of time for the sleepers to ease on in. Grizzly Bear’s EP of covers and re-interpretations and Sigur Ros’ dual EPs released on one disc will be at the top of the stack for many record buyers, but also worthwhile and less conspicuous are entries from The Antlers, Richard Youngs, White Williams, Citay, and Wild Sweet Orange. In preparation for the holidays, more reissues and collections hit the shelves — that way if you happen to give, say, a Neko Case CD to a friend who already has it, you can say that this is the “remastered” version. Look for old-now-new releases from Blondie, Sarah Dougher, Merle Haggard, Sun City Girls, Gram Parsons, Nas, Bright Eyes, and a whole bunch more. Grab a shopping list, courtesy of Largehearted Boy, and head down to your favorite music vendor:

Heima played at the AFI in Los Angeles this weekend. Awesome experience and a great crowd!! Too bad I missed their concert. Whoever digs Sigur Ros should get it. It’s a great complement to the documentary “Screaming Masterpiece” (w/Bjork, Sigur Ros, Mum…) that came out earlier this year and gives a broad overview of the Icelandic music scene. Go Iceland!!
