New Releases: 11/13

25 years later and they still haven’t run out of hairspray

Once again, there seem to be more re-releases than new ones this week, as we approach the holidays at breakneck speed. There are some interesting albums worth whatever cash you have left, though, like Winnipeg singer Christine Fellows, who often tours with her husband and his band The Weakerthans and whose Nevertheless is sure to please fans of Joanna Newsom and Marissa Nadler. Fellow Canadian Todd Fancey, guitarist for The New Pornographers, releases his second solo effort, Schmancey. Duran Duran and their inheritors, The Killers, both have spanking new ones, as do The Hives. Those who want something a little further off the beaten path should seek Efterklang’s gorgeous new album Parades and Athens, GA, band Japancakes’ reworking of My Bloody Valentine’s classic Loveless. Of course, Robyn Hitchcock’s I Wanna Go Backwards retrospective box set would make a nice gift under some indie hipster’s tree (hint, hint). Take a gander at Largehearted Boy‘s list and get shopping… right after you sample these new tracks:

Aarktica – Seventy Jane (MP3)

Christine Fellows – Nevertheless

Club 8 – Heaven (MP3)

Duran Duran – Falling Down

Efterklang – Cutting Ice To Snow (MP3)

Fancey – Lost in Twilight (MP3)

High Violets – Chinese Letter [Ulrich Schnauss Remix] (MP3)

Robyn Hitchcock – I Wanna Go Backwards (MP3)

The Hives – Tick Tick Boom

House & Parish – Pristine Fields (MP3)

Japancakes – Only Shallow (MP3)

The Killers – Tranquilize

Thanks to Pitchfork, Sterogum, Willamette Weekly, and all of the labels and distributors who make songs available to sample before you buy.
