Every Friday, we deliver a local song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is It’s Epidemic by The Cops from the 2007 album Free Electricity on The Control Group.

The Cops - It’s Epidemic (MP3)

Free Electricity marks the second full-length from the Seattle quintet The Cops. Distancing themselves a bit from 2005′s Get Good or Stay Bad, the new record still clings to some first-generation punk stuff but now leans closer to garage rock accented with mesmerizing hooks. In early 2006, Drew Church, formerly of the Supersuckers, hopped on board as a bass player and guitarist Brandon Bay rounded out the current lineup following the recording of the new album. These recent changes, along with heavy doses of touring, have led to a well oiled machine. I say let screeching vocals and chest-rattling guitars forever persist in the Emerald City! Yesterday the band performed live in the KEXP studio during Cheryl Waters’ midday show and tonight will play a record release gig at the Crocodile. Stay tuned to their MySpace page for more upcoming local shows, and get a sneak peek into the recording process of the new album here:
