Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters in anticipation of the 5th Annual Yule Benefit, is Wait For The Summer by Yeasayer from their performance at CMJ, broadcast live on KEXP.

Yeasayer – Wait For The Summer (Live @ KEXP) (MP3)

It’s a rare occurrence to find a band that doesn’t sound like anything else out there. Yeasayer’s debut, All Hour Cymbals (We Are Free), immediately comes off as totally original and totally nostalgic. At times recalling the more explorative Peter Gabriel and David Byrne, this Brooklyn quartet wraps global inspirations inside a psychedelic-rock framework. Best of all, the band likes to mash it up live, all the more reason to stop listening to them on your iPod and head to the Showbox for Saturday’s Yule Benefit. And for all you slackers, head over to the band’s MySpace page where you will still find the downloadable non-album track, Final Path. In the meantime, your prep course for Saturday’s show is as follows: video from CMJ (performances of 2080, & Sunrise), past feature of 2080, and past feature of Sunrise.
