It seems Portlanders Viva Voce have decided to take a much needed break, according to their MySpace blog. Who could blame them, wrapping up all of this in one year: a reissue, Bumbershoot, Capitol Hill Block Party, many other fests, an international tour with The Shins, a snack recipe featured in a cookbook, and their label Amore!Phonics; phew! I think the husband/wife duo deserve some alone time after that amount of public face time.
Two nights ago, on December 5th, they played a “See you later!” free show in Portland. Hopefully our southerly neighbors made it out for one last set. The rest of us will just have to wait–until when? They don’t say, but word through the grapevine is that they used to take breaks every winter, this is just a normal part of their routine, and they’ll be back undoubtedly in no time! Hankering for some Viva already? Catch my interview recorded after their Bumbershoot performance:
Also, don’t forget to catch our 5th Annual Yule Benefit show TOMORROW night at the Showbox at the Market. This end of the year, holiday show features two of our favorite local bands to burst on to the scene this year: The Valley and Feral Children. Head out early to see them open up the night, before Brooklyn’s Yeasayer. This concert helps us keep the show going here on KEXP, so come out and meet us (if you’re 21+, that is!)
More Portlanders are making news this week, this time a sibling duo with Eux Autres releasing their second full length, Cold City. They’re bringing their lo-fi psychedelic pop to the Comet tonight, meaning you here in Seattle can pick up a copy. Afterward they’ll be gracing California with their presence, as if they needed more sunshine down there! For the Christmas season, pop over to their MySpace page for their song, “Another Christmas at Home.”
Head over to Three Imaginary Girls to VOTE VOTE VOTE for who you think is the Best of the NW. That’s right, if you’re reading this you must have some interest in the local music goings-on of the upper left corner of this country (not Alaska, silly!), and now is the time to share who you think we should have been raving about all year long.
