Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is If You’re Into It
by Flight of the Conchords from their 2007 The Distant Future EP on Sub Pop.
Flight of the Conchords – If You’re Into It (MP3)
This feature comes right on the heels of the New Zealand duo’s recent Grammy nomination for best comedy album. For those both familiar and foreign to the HBO show of the same name, this EP, while short, requires little time to work its magic. The EP contains 3 tracks adapted from songs performed on the show as well as 3 live tracks. And despite their lack of visual accompaniment, these songs have little trouble holding their own. As late as 2005, Bret Mckenzie handled occasional songwriting duties for reggae-funk band the Black Seeds, supplementing Flight of the Conchords highly caricatured and self-deprecating sexual humor with… actual songwriting. As mentioned in our previous feature of this duo, their show has been granted a second season, and listeners have the benefit of knowing that early 2008 bears a proper full-length release. Stay tuned to their MySpace page for hilarious new videos, and if you haven’t seen it already, enjoy this video here, If You’re Into It
