Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is
She Likes the Snow by New Faces from the 2007 self-released New Faces EP.
While these three faces may be new to you, chances are, they won’t be for long. The name change of this Port Townsend band, previously known as Captain Incognito, is purely cosmetic, as the original members — Nico (guitar, vocals), Kyle (bass), and Conor (synths) — continue to combine jabbing punk guitar riffs, melancholy vocals, and tap-your-foot pop sensibilities. The thought of Interpol may dance in your head from time to time upon first listen (minus Paul Banks’ constant brooding), but trio soon prove that they’re more than just new faces on an old sound. This month, New Faces have a couple exciting Seattle shows: they’ll be at the Comet 12/21 (21+) and at Le Pichet to ring in the new year with an all-ages crowd. Their EP is available via their MySpace page for the low, low price of $5, not to mention the site’s great song samples and independent movie reviews. Be the die-hard music fan you were born to be; pick up the disc and head to one these great shows.
