Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Afternoon Show host Kevin Cole, is It Started With A Mix
by Los Campesinos! from the 2007 Sticking Fingers Into Sockets EP on Arts & Crafts.
Los Campesinos! a fiery power-pop septet, hails from Cardiff, Wales and was birthed by MySpace. With David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene) in the production seat and some borderline rambunctious dance-punk reminiscent of The Go! Team(punctuation aside), it’s no wonder Los Campesinos! were name-dropped from the get-go for 2007′s best debut EP. Their recent single for International Tweexcore Underground
features covers of Heavenly’s C Is the Heavenly Option
and Black Flag’s Police Story.
A similarly formatted single is set to drop just before the debut full length release on February 25th. The band is touring Europe all through February and into March. Those unable to take part in the festivities can follow along on the band blog, a gathering place for first-rate adventure stories and prophetic antidotes. All the dates are up on their MySpace page along with a respectable 5 streaming songs. Now catch a glimpse of the latest from LC with this video for Death to Los Campesinos!
