Out this week: New releases 1/8

It’s time to start spending those holiday gift cards at your local record store or favorite online digital retailer. The new releases are starting to spill in, though a bit slowly right now. Largehearted Boy‘s list of new releases is still a bit thin, though beefier than it’s been since the holidays.

Looking for the new Lily Allen? That’s what some critics and fans have been saying about Kate Nash, the latest brash, young, female, internet buzzed about, heavily accented British export. Her debut, Made of Bricks, hits these shores today. Also, the Juno soundtrack is definitely worth considering for the off-beat folk tunes of Kimya Dawson and The Moldy Peaches as well as for its inclusion of the more digestible indie favorites Belle & Sebastian and Cat Power. Other new releases include Marah‘s Angels of Destruction!, Wussy‘s Left for Dead, and Sia‘s Some People Have Real Problems. Fans of Reverend Horton Heat should check out Reverend Organdrum, which is basically the same band under a different name. Here are a few songs to sample:

Marah – Coughing Up Blood (MP3)

Kate Nash – Pumpkin Soup

Reverend Organdrum – Bim Bam Baby (live) (MP3)

The Shondes – Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (MP3)

Sia – Electric Bird (MP3)

The Wire – Steve Earle – Way Down In The Hole (opening credits)

Wisely – Through Any Window (MP3)

Wussy – Rigor Mortis (MP3)
