As you can see from Largehearted Boy‘s list of new releases, there is very little new this week, but the few that are available are definitely worth considering.
Perhaps generating the most anticipation this week is Distortion, the latest from The Magnetic Fields. You can stream the album on their MySpace page. And be sure to check out this song that songwriter Stephen Merritt composed in just two days for NPR’s Project Song series:
Eels have generously released Meet The Eels: Essential Eels 1996-2006, Vol. 1, a greatest hits compilation, as well as Useless Trinkets, a compilation of b-sides, soundtrack singles, rarities, and unreleased tracks. “Saturday Morning,” from Shootenany!, is definitely one of their “essential” songs:
