Every Friday, we deliver a different song from a local performer as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters, is About to Walk
by Throw Me The Statue from the 2008 album Moonbeams on Secretly Canadian.
Moonbeams, the debut album for Scott Reitherman aka Throw Me The Statue, was originally released last year on Seattle’s Baskerville Hill Records but will receive a slight makeover and rerelease 2/19 courtesy of Secretly Canadian. Its soundscapes range from simple acoustic bedroom pop to more upbeat and far more complex garage- and electro-pop. About to Walk,
easily an album highlight, opens with television static and a drum machine before Reitherman’s vocals rise out of the noise to take precedence as the song keeps gaining in complexity. Listen as the live drums kick in, sounding like theirs a second drummer behind the grassy knoll. This guy obviously loves experimenting with sounds and creating songs as one would create collages. If you haven’t already gotten your hands on this one, throw him your dollars. Three other tracks are currently running on the TMTS MySpace page and I’ll throw in this video from Seattle’s Bop Street Records courtesy of our favorite Three Imaginary Girls:
