Monday News: Portishead: Third, Bat For The Lashes, R(.I.P)esonance Magazine

  • With all the new records coming out soon or just being announced, KEXP does its best to keep you informed:

  • From Spacelab we have a track list from the new Spiritualized, Songs in A&E, their first since 2003’s Amazing Grace. SIA&E is due May 19th in the U.K., but no release date has been given for the U.S. yet.

  • Brooklyn Vegan is saying that M83‘s, Saturday = Youth will be released digitally this Tuesday (Feb. 26th), plus there is a North American tour mounting, including a stop here in Seattle (March 25th at Neumo’s).

  • Portishead‘s aptly titled upcoming album, Third, is getting closer to our ears. Rock Sellout has a track list for Third which will be available April 29th — convenient for all those who miss their April 26th appearance at Coachella.
  • New festival announcements:

  • First, from Stereogum comes a quip about Bestival. Slated to perform this U.K. festival this summer is My Bloody Valentine, (the reclusive) Aphex Twin, The Breeders, Gary Numan, and too many others to list here.

  • However skeptically, Pitchfork announced that Radiohead, Jack Johnson and Tom Petty will be headlining San Francisco’s All Shook Down festival (Aug 22-24 in Golden Gate Park). Don’t worry Seattle, Radiohead also says they are coming here, but they won’t say when.
  • A while ago Bat For Lashes earned a Mercury Prize nomination for her record, Fur and Gold. But what can we expect from Natasha Khan’s next record? We’ll find out, as this week she heads into the studio to start a new one.
  • And while were on the topic of lashes, Seattle’s own hard rockers, The Lashes are proving they truly meant it when they said “thank you.” They are urging fans to come download the 6 new songs from Thank You (Side A) over on their Myspace page for free! Side B hasn’t been written yet, maybe because some members are having fun with some side projects, like keyboardist Jacob Hoffman’s Ships and guitarist Eric Howk’s Palmer, Ak. Go to Rock Sellout or Line Out for the whole story.
  • Do Ya’ Think Rod Stewart is still sexy? Ohio’s The Black Keys do. At least enough to invite him to collaborate on the condition that he “comes to Akron”. While we wait for that we can enjoy this video for Attack & Release, from the new Dangermouse produced album hitting the shelves April 1st.

  • Following up with last Thursday’s sad news that No Depression magazine was going out of print, we can add Resonance Mag to the list as well. This is obviously sad news for the music magazine business and our condolences go out to RM while they figure out what they are going to to.

  • Dischord Records have been enlisting the sonic mastermind Chad Clark from The Beauty Pill to remaster a lot of their catalog (Fugazi’s 13 songs, Repeater and Steady Diet of Nothing quickly come to mind but there are more I’m sure). On Thursday he underwent life or death open heart surgery for a viral heart infection. UPDATE– A new blog post from bandmate Jean Cook says that the surgery went well. Congratulations to Chad and we hope you get better soon. Big thank you to Idolator for this one.
  • Here’s this week’s talk show appearance line up:

  • TuesdayLupe Fiasco on Leno
  • WednesdayGeorgie James on Conan
  • ThursdayCat Power on Leno
