Out This Week 2/26

Ghostland Observatory — now on tour (and selling out!)

Maybe it’s the Leap Year on Friday that’s scared off the labels from releasing such a bevy of new albums this week as they did last week. But just because it’s a tad slower this time around, that doesn’t mean you can take the week off. As you can see from Largehearted Boy’s list, there are plenty of heavy jams and slow burns to choose from. Lookin’ to rock out? Pick up the latest from Ghostland Observatory, The Dirtbombs, and the farewell CD/DVD of Rocket from the Crypt‘s last performance. Rather chill out? Grab the new stunners from Goldfrapp, Beach House, and Tift Merritt. Also, Erykah Badu‘s challengingly spelled fifth album hits shelves today, as does the debut solo effort from Pink Martini vocalist China Forbes. And it would be a week without some sort of release from Robert Pollard — today greets the third album by Psycho and The Birds, a project that begins with Bob’s home recordings on his boombox. To fill your own boombox, head out to your local record store, but not before you sample these tracks:

Erykah Badu – Honey
from New AmErykah, Pt. 1: 4th World War on Motown

Laura Barrett – Deception Island Optimists Club (MP3)
from Earth Sciences EP on Paper Bag Records

Beach House – Gila (MP3)
from Devotion on Carpark Records

The Dirtbombs – Sherlock Holmes (MP3)
from We Have You Surrounded on In The Red

China Forbes – Everybody Needs Somebody (MP3)
from ’78 on Heinz Records

Ghostland Observatory – Heavy Heart (MP3)
from Robotique Majestique on Trashy Moped

Goldfrapp – A&E
from Seventh Tree on Mute

La Scala – Parallel Lives (MP3)
from The Harlequin EP on Highwheel Records

Lemuria – Pants (MP3)
from Get Better on Asian Man Records

bonus: Tift Merritt – Keep You Happy (MP3)
from Another Country on Fantasy

Tift Merritt – Broken

Psycho and The Birds – Enon Beach (MP3)
from We’ve Moved on Happy Jack Records

Rocket From The Crypt
from R.I.P. (Final Show) on Vagrant

Superfantastics – Turn Me On (MP3)
from the self-released Choose Your Destination EP
