Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection is “We Are Rockstars” by Does it Offend You, Yeah? from the forthcoming album You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into on Virgin. Catch their exclusive live set this Friday from KRLU Studios in Austin, as KEXP visits South by Southwest.
Being a sucker for the vocoder, this one had me at hello. Reading, U.K.’s Does it Offend You, Yeah? are a tidal wave of synthesized chaos, with all manner of musical explosives going off in the impossibly cheeky “We Are Rockstars.” At its most frenzied DIOY,Y? (do acronyms use commas?) still hold it together with a thick beat brewed from both robotics and a live drummer. If you’ve heard their name via remix action (Bloc Party and Muse come to mind), check out the band itself. Note to Daft Punk fans: pull out your wallets now, because you’ll want this record immediately. It’s always tricky seeing how this strain of Danceable Sensory Overload goes over in a live setting, but we’ll have a chance to see and hear for ourselves — the band will be performing live for KEXP at SxSW this Friday at 5:30 PM Austin time. If it’s anything like the live video below, bring your dancing Docs. Crash helmet optional.

Thanks for posting this, Spike – DIOYY are brilliant!!
Lol, this is the most sedate clip i’ve ever seen of a DIOYY show – seriously, all else i’ve seen is more along the “crash helmets required” line.
Can’t wait for their KEXP show at SXSW!!
I still can’t get over how bad that band name is.
yEAHHH but they love having a bad name. seriously this band KILL it live.
