Jens Lekman is the second of our Swedish acts today though he recently relocated to Australia. After self-releasing several CD-Rs himself, Night Falls Over Kortedala marks his third release on Secretly Canadian. 2005s Oh You’re So Silent Jens marked his big entrance into the American scene though his previous effort earned him much acclaim in his native Sweden. Lekman’s genius lays in his layering capabilities and his witty melancholy akin to Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merritt or Lekman’s idol Jonathan Richman. Above his tales of heartbreak, an orchestra of sampled consonance resounds, creating an often polarizing effect on listeners. Lekman has toured with fellow Swedes Jose Gonzalez and El Perro Del Mar. The latter appears on the latest record along with another Swedish singer-songwriter Frida Hyvonen.
